Stenciled & scalloped dress
Sailor belle. Forties, white-on-navy day dress. Stencil-painted and semi-transparent -- a sturdy sort of filmy voile. Wrap bodice has scallop detailing that rides down your skirt-front --- scalloping flaps open, exposing flashes of white, as you walk (or jitterbug, as you prefer). Bias-cut, allowing for a beautiful drape -- oval-shaped waistband -- puffed sleeves with shoulder-pads -- pleated bust. Lots o' goodies.

Although measurements are generous, you'll need to add a side zipper and untack the neckline before you can wear this as a size large.
condition**
- goodSome noticable flaws. Still wearable -- but also useful as study pieces, theatrical costumes or fix'm-ups. Only purchased if item is rare, beautiful, or historically-significant. Dress is a dark-navy color -- most pictures have been lightened. Dress is sheer & any color variations visible are from mannequin.
Neckline has been tacked to a modest height --- easy to undo if you'd prefer more cleavage.
Charming & very wearable -- just add a dark slip (or lining) to make mends disappear.
Noted repairs: several mends have been made to body of dress --- locations: left shoulder seam (pictured), mid-back (pictured), 5 spots to skirt. These flaws were carefully-darned by the owner, who obviously enjoyed wearing the dress, and are somewhat hidden by the busy stencil pattern. All are small, about half the size (or smaller) of a ladies pinkie nail. A repair seam has been added to skirt. Scalloped neckline has been resewn along the edge.** Vintage items are precious, pre-owned pieces of history. Many have unique dyes and handcrafted prints, artisan weaves and intricate hand-tailoring -- details no longer available except in modern couture. Please love & respect your vintage.
